The internationally recognized Libyan government in the West of Libya says National reconciliation is the only way out of the Libyan crisis. The statement is from Libya’s UN Ambassador, Taher El-Sonni. He said Libya is tired of and fed up with the stalemate for decades now.
“We are tired and fed of being lectured on what to do and what not to do,” Taher El-Sonni said.
The government wants the UN Security Council to react; meanwhile Libyans from rival regions and all walks of life have been meeting with UN officials in the country for the political process to advance towards elections.
The country’s current political crisis stems from the failure to hold elections last December 24, 2021. In February this year, Former UN special representative in Libya, Abdoulaye Bathily warned the country’s feuding political actors that if they didn’t urgently form a unified government and move towards elections, Libya would slide into “disintegration”.
Eastern Libya is now governed by Prime Minister OSSAMA Hammad while the powerful military commander Khalifa Hifter continues to hold sway.
