Libya: Another High Level Peace Talks, Underway in Tunisia

The objective of the peace talks is to identify and outline a roadmap ahead of the presidential and parliamentary elections in the country.

The six days peace talks opened Monday November 9, 2020 in the town of Gammarth – Tunisia.

The rival factions in Libya are all attending the peace talks.

Libyan officials are saluted to have facilitated the peace talks brokered by the United Nations.

Opening the deliberations, Tunisian President Kais Said, publicly addressed the gathering.

He told the participants that they have an appointment with history, and should not fail the nation.

“If you discuss and see into it that no armed group outside of Libyan souverenty exists, and when you will gather the weapons, then you have made it,” he added.

The United Nations and the international community are strongly behind the peace talks in Libya.

UN Secretary General, Antonio Guteresse, reminded the participants that the future of Libya lies in their hands.

The present peace talks could see the end to the political chaos that has engulfed the North African nation since the ousting and assassination of leader Moammar Gadhafi in 2011.

Similar talks have been holding in other nations across the world.

The Libyan crisis is between the internationally recognized government in the capital Tripoli, and the Benghazi based Libyan National Army headed by renegade Commander, Khalifa Hafter.
