The headquarters of Cameroon Foundation for AIDS (CAMFAIDS) has been rehabilitated and equipped by the Israeli Embassy, Yaounde with funds worth 25 million FCFA.

A special ceremony to receive donations for the community laboratory and inauguration of rehabilitation works of the Listening and Refuge centers of CAMFAIDS took place on Thursday December 3, 2020 presided over by Israel’s Ambassador to Cameroon, H.E Isi Yanouka.

Speaking at the ceremony the board chair of CAMFAIDS, Michel Engama thanked the ambassador for continuing with what his predecessors started.

“Though, the 25 beds offered are not enough, we are still thankful because it has solved many issues. This is going to help us continue with our vision of freely offering our services to the vulnerable and marginalized groups”, Mr Engama said.

H.E Isi Yanouka speaking to reporters after the ceremony said CAMFAID represents ideas and work that the Israeli government identifies itself with: they work for people; they don’t judge people and they work relentlessly to make the world a little better, reason why the center was chosen to be rehabilitated and equipped.

The organization since 2018 has benefitted from the support of the Israeli Embassy in Cameroon and the Mashav. The support led to: a sponsored internship on social entrepreneurship in HAIFA-Israel of two staff of the organization; rehabilitation of the refuge center and the opening of a community laboratory.

It should be recalled that CAMFAID was created in 2009 and legalized in 2012 and has 3 priority areas: sexual and reproductive health, gender and gender identity and human rights and advocacy.

The organization for the past decade has distinguished itself in the response to HIV through innovative strategies that lay emphasis on the quality of personalized services to communities with added value on the diversity of its service package offered.
